How to round on your babies

How to present you babies on rounds
|
Say, "This is baby girl SMITH, weight (change), PND#, for this 28 weeker," then jump right into the problem list, generally starting with the most important problem. Present the pertinent history, exam findings, lab tests, and preliminary plan of care for the day under each problem. Present only the pertinent/active problems.
Sample Problems:
You may be interrupted during your presentation for clarification of information or for a teaching point by the attending. Answer as best you can & remember where you are in your presentation. Don’t repeat non-active problems, keep your presentation concise. Mention physical findings if they are pertinent or a change from the norm. After completing your presentation, give a brief summary of your plans for today. The attending will make suggestions for your baby. WRITE these down on the bottom of your rounding sheets & make a daily checklist. |
After Rounds

Enter new orders in Epic. Update problem list and generate progress notes for the day. Forward the progress note to the attending that you rounding with. Eat lunch. If there is time the attending on service will generally give a short lecture sometime between 2:00 - 3:00.
